This fungal infection is very common in goldfish. This can be caused if the goldfish is handled roughly and its coat is damaged

allowing the fungus to reach the skin. It can also be caused soon after the goldfish recovers from disease like, Ich, Finrot, or Ulcers. During spring there is a rise in the temperature o water, this can also cause cotton wool. Change in water is also harmful for the goldfish. A dead is fish or old food may develop fungus in the tank and infect the fish.
Cotton wool disease can easily be diagnosed because white, gray or brown cotton wool patches can be seen on the body of the goldfish. Its eggs are also infected.
This disease needs proper treatment. Best thing is to shift the fish to the hospital tank. The cotton wool patches can be removed with the help of cotton swab of iodine. A 3% salt solution is also helpful.
Precautions should be taken as soon as this disease is discovered because it spreads quickly and even kills the fish.
